Skrilla Knits

Knitting has long been considered antiquated, something for grandmas and whipped little housewives. That just isn't true. Knitting is one of those minute to learn, lifetime to master deals, and I'm in it for the long haul.

NoSoNaFiSweMo

So you've heard of NaNoWriMo and it's knit twin NaNoSweMo. Meet NoSoNaFiSweMo.

It's my very own Not-So-National Finish a Sweater Month...contest!

You see, the cold has finally arrived. My closet is pretty slim in the sweater department. The ones I wear the most are Salvation Army rescues. I've stupidly felted a few sweaters recently. My go-to black cardigan is full of holes.

L.L. Bean is offering free shipping at the moment so I went over to score some wool cardigans. I was happily creating a cart (tempting items: a red plaid coat a la Little Pete from "Pete and Pete," a union suit and red plaid duct tape). Then it hit me--I have one kojillion unfinished sweaters all over the apartment. Well, I'm rounding up, but let's take a head count of all the sweaters I have just...stopped mentioning (lots of Ravelry links, sorry):

1. Tilted Duster

2. Blood Orange Cardigan

3. Enid Cardigan

4. Hudson Hoodie

5. Treeline Cardigan

6. Thermal

7. Forecast

8. Spray/T-Storms

SO--I've decided to finish these. In November. Pretty sure I can't do all of them, but I'm going to see how many I can pull off. Here is the contest: guess how many sweaters (and which ones) I'll finish by December 1st! There will be a blog runway show to show off the finished objects.

The info about these sweaters is on the blog, on Ravelry and on some knit-along pages. Some of it isn't up to date and starting now, I will not edit or update ANYTHING related to these sweaters until December 1st. No new info!! This month is a busy one for me but there is Thanksgiving break and residual energy from all the caffeine I'll be chugging to get through the schoolwork. You can ask me ONE question in the comments before making your guess.

Winners will receive a custom prize package, most likely a combination of some stash items, books or Lexie Barnes bags I'd like to pass along and new items purchased especially for the winner. If no one guesses exactly correctly, I will choose randomly from whoever guessed the correct NUMBER of sweaters. Unclear? Please ask away.

The gauntlet has been thrown down!

CR

P.S. My statcounter tells me that I had a random jump in readership on Monday...but I can't figure out why. The Visitor Paths are only reported for the most recent 100 visitors. Does anyone know who linked to me?

ooooh good luck! That is a great goal. Having that many unfinished sweaters around would drive me crazy. Having just one unfinished one is making me batty. My guess is that you finish all of them except Thermal. ;)

Ok, I'm gonna say you will finish 3. In particular the Tilted Duster, Hudson Hoodie, and T-storms. But I'll be impressed if you finish all of them like Macoco commented!

Oh, I noticed that on your blog it is called "Spray" as opposed to "T-storms." I'm sure you would have figured it out!

Blogger Melissa said...

I say 5.5: Tilted, Blood-orange, Enid, Hudson, and forecast finished with the t-storm almost complete. Like missing an arm complete. Good luck and Godspeed.

I think you'll finish 3 :
1. Tilted Duster
2. Enid Cardigan
3. Hudson Hoodie

I reckon...1,2,3,4 and 8....
You've inspired me to make a deadline for some unfinished designs!! I'm thinking I can only pull off two this month though!

I say 4:

Tilted, Enid, Hudson, and Spray.

I'll say Tilted, Hudson, Forecast, and maybe Spray. Of course that's my selfish nature coming out because I can't wait to see your FOs. My duster is coming along, my Forecast is done, but that Hudson looks interesting. I have too much in my queue as it is!

Blogger Smuddpie said...

Amy, I concur! Tilted, Hudson, Forecast. Probably not Spray. So I guess my official guess is 3.

Hey,
This post made made me delurk!!
I think you will finish the forecast, the tilted duster, Treeline cardigan and the Hudson Hoodie thing. That makes 4 sweaters. I can't wait to see whatever you finish.
You've also inspired me to finish a few sweaters this month, I have 2 I need to finish.
Good Luck!

I'm going to say 4. Forecast, Blood Orange, Tilted Duster, and Hudson. It's what I would do, anyway. =)

I don't know if this counts as linking, but I put you on my side bar of favorite knitting blogs to read. Would that do it. I hope that doesn't upset you, I just like to have all the links in one spot so I can go down the line while I am bored at work :)
My guesses to finished sweaters are the tilted Duster, Hudson Hoodie, T- Storms and two others howabout Forecast and Enid Cardigan.

I'm gonna go with 5: the ones that look like they're the furthest along (Forecast, Spray, Enid, and Hudson Hoodie) and the one that I think is most November-appropriate (Treeline). Mmmm, November. I miss New England.

p.s. I posted about this contest on WiKnit, my knitting contest blog.

Everyone's thinking along the same lines so far! I think Tilted, Blood Orange, Hudson, and Forecast. I almost linked to you yesterday (but didn't in the end, but my blog wouldn't cause such a jump in readers!!), I got a little reminiscent about my early blog reading and the inspiration I got from it (a la Eunny Jang, mainly because I just cast on her Endpaper Mitts), but ultimately your blog (I think over at Livejournal at the time) is really what kept me knitting! I hope that sounds more compliment-y than weird....!!

I'll say 5: Hudson, Spray, Treeline, Tilted Duster, and Enid. (And I'm usually wrong, but I'm giving it a guess!)

well, I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and say Tilted Duster, Enid Cardigan and Hudson Hoodie, but I'm also thinking you'll surprise everyone by finishing Thermal.

Just a little power of positive thought!

I hope you finish them all so you can say that you finished 8 sweaters all at once! lol

The ones that look like they'll be the closest are probably Enid, Hudson, Spray/T-storms, Treeline and Tilted Duster... so I guess 5. :)

Hi Cirilia,

I think You'll finish the tilted duster first. Then I predict that you will be riding the high from that one and will cruise through the rest of the Hudson Hoodie which will motivate you to fix the problems with the blood orange cardi.
Then you will feel so exhilarated from that victory that you will pull out and finish forecast and immediately wear it to show off those cool buttons.
I really hope you also finish the Enid. You look so happy in the pic of it so far. So my guess is. . . 5.

I coming in near the end. Probably you can forsee what you'll finish. But my predication is you will finish three. You have to study after all. These are in no particular order:

1. Blood Red Cardigan
2. Tilted Duster
3. Hudson Hoodie

Good luck. Can't wait to see the finished objects.

Maybe also Thunderstorm if you get real motivated.

Hmmm... I'm going to throw in my hat and say that, come Dec 1st, you will have 5 completed sweaters, in no particular order:

* Hudson Hoodie
* Forecast
* Spray
* Titled Duster
* Tree Line Cardigan

And as for the readership spike... it might have something to do with your contest being advertised on WiKnit (http://wiknit.blogspot.com/)?
